Nanded Bomb Blast: CBI investigation under a cloud
CBI ignored the report of a phone discussion between an accused and an office bearer of a Sangh Parivar organisation
Mumbai, November 16, (Agencies): CBI investigations in the Nanded bomb blast case of 2006, has come under a cloud of suspicion and doubt. In fact, CBI had not taken any serious note of a report in which the first ever indication of military training of a self-proclaimed Hindutva extremist organisation had come to light. Central Security Agency sources have disclosed that the accused in the case had admitted about Bajrang Dal member Naresh Kumar Kondwar has allegedly planned bomb attacks near 3 Masjids which had shaken the cities of Jalna and Parbhani in Maharashtra in the years 2003-4. In those blasts, the accused had got his vocal cords damaged which were later operated upon and repaired.
The Nanded bomb blast occurred at the house of the RSS member Lakshman Raj Kondwar in which his son Naresh and VHP activist Himanshu Panse died while assembling bombs. Sources have reported that though CBI had filed charge sheets against 10 persons, but could not proceed with the leads given in investigations by some of the accused. It is alleged that in these cross examinations, the accused had confirmed their involvement in earlier bombings. Investigative agencies found, at the house of Raj Kondwar, caps, fake beards and plans for attack on a Masjid at Aurangabad, which is at a distance of 200 kilometers from Nanded. Investigators further hold that the accused had informed how Naresh has sent him to Pane on his train ticket on the same day when in 2004 explosives were thrown at a Jalna Masjid (Mosque). This was to frame an alibi that on the day of the blast, Naresh was not in the district. ATS is trying to find clues for possible involvement of the accused in Nanded blasts in other blasts. Meanwhile CBI had sent its team to Mumbai to get fresh leads to assist in the investigation.
CBI kept silence in this matter. But it was admitted by some of its officials that their investigation remained restricted to Nanded bomb blast only. On the condition of non-disclosure of their identity, officials in the CBI had disclosed that during the investigation, they had received a report about a phone call by the accused to an important functionary of a Saffron organisation in Ayodhya. However, it was not given any importance. CBI now wishes to investigate the 10 arrested accused in Malegaon blast including Lt. Col. Purohit. Agency had reportedly filed charge sheet against ten accused on March 15, 2008. On the other hand, investigators are amazed at the ATC contention of the use of the dangerous RDX in Samjhauta Express bombing. Those who had investigated this matter earlier could not find any trace of RDX in Samjhauta Express bombing. After reports from forensic experts, ATC officers hold that there is need to further cross-examine Lt. Col Purohit so that they would find out the source of RDX used.
